About The Role

Contract Type: Fixed term 12 months
Hours: 21 to 28 hours
Interviews: Week Commencing 20th January

When applying, we strongly recommend that you attach a supporting statement to show how you meet the criteria for this role.

Right now, the way people are diagnosed with dementia in the UK is simply not good enough. Far too often, people are left anxiously waiting for a diagnosis – up to two years on average, and more than four years if they are under 65.

Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK have been awarded £5 million by the People’s Postcode Lottery to run a ground-breaking research and influencing project that will transform the way dementia is diagnosed, by accelerating progress towards a blood test for Alzheimer’s disease.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced comms professional to implement an integrated comms plan to support this project.

At the end of the research grant period (5 years), our goal is to have at least one local healthcare system routinely using blood tests to diagnose Alzheimer’s disease.

As well as promoting the project itself, including to potential research participants, you will play a key role in improving the public’s understanding of dementia, and helping to break down the stigma that often stops people seeking a diagnosis.

About you

We are looking for a dynamic self-starter and creative senior communications professional to deliver an integrated, high-impact comms plan to support the project.

You will play a key role as the comms lead in driving the plan forward, acting as the link between media teams at Alzheimer’s Society, Alzheimer’s Research UK and People’s Postcode Lottery

The successful candidate will have experience working in a high-profile, busy media office, with proven ability to develop and deliver media campaigns that engage audiences and shape the public agenda.

You will have excellent consumer and health media contacts (a background in healthcare comms or research is desirable), and the ability to brief senior spokespeople.

You will have a unique opportunity to help improve the lives of people with dementia through this once-in-a-lifetime project.
