Contract: 17.5 hours per week, part time role
It is an exciting time to join Alzheimer's Society and the Group Facilitator role will ensure people affected by dementia are able to meet others in a similar situation, access the support they need whilst enjoying meaningful and often exciting activities.
Our groups in Derby are an integral part of the community and to people living with Dementia, they have been a lifeline to many. The groups include stimulating memory cafes, music sessions, a walking group and carers group. The facilitator will attend these groups and support the volunteers in activities, organising speakers and bringing the group together. The successful candidate will be managing a supportive and experienced team of dedicated volunteers.
You will:
- Setup, promote, establish, organise and facilitate or deliver group(s) and ensure that all attending are supported to fully engage in the session.
- Recruit and guide volunteers that the volunteers have clarity about their roles and undertake appropriate training.
- Take views and feedback of service users, considering the individual needs of members of the group.
- Assist the service users to feel welcome and to understand the aims and benefit of the groups, and welcome all new attendees, providing information about the group.
- Proactively support an inclusive and welcoming working environment where all people we support feel able to be themselves.
About you
We are looking for a compassionate, supportive person with a good understanding of dementia and how it impacts both the person with the diagnosis and the carer. Our role requires excellent communication skills to engage people in group activities, ensuring the person with dementia can fully participate as well as the carer. The Alzheimer’s Society also offers a wide range of training and opportunities to enhance your knowledge base.
You will:
- To understand the importance of volunteers in group services and the ability to role manage volunteers to support them in their role.
- Good knowledge of dementia and an understanding of the needs of people with dementia and their carers
- Experience of co-ordinating individuals/teams or volunteers.
- Good computer skills are required to facilitate virtual groups, and to complete accurate records on the computer system.
- The ability to travel independently to the locations the service covers.
- A drive to enhance on areas of knowledge that may be limited and build on your knowledge that is already there.
- A warm and welcoming nature and approach.
