About The Role

Want to use your interpersonal skills over the telephone to provide vital support and services information to people affected by dementia?

This  exciting volunteering opportunity will take place supporting people waiting for a diagnosis of dementia, in the Western Trust area of Northern Ireland. However it can be carried out remotely.
 
It is expected that the calls are made  between Monday and Friday 9-5, however there may be some flexibility to this. 
 
We are looking for people keen to support those who are experiencing an uncertain time, and who maybe anxious or worried. It is about reaching out, offering support and sign posting to other appropriate services.  We are currently contacting around 30 people per month.
 
This is a crucial part of our service as it allows us to build up relationships with people before they get a diagnosis, which will help us support them after their diagnosis.  
 
You will provide a service that is tailored to a person's needs, interests, abilities, history and personality. You will be a key point of contact for people using our services, ensuring that we keep in touch with people at a time when they need our support.
 

This role will be subject to a satisfactory Criminal Records Check from either the Disclosure and Barring Service (England & Wales), Disclosure Scotland Check (Scotland) or AccessNI (Northern Ireland). You’ll be great for the role if you:

  • You want to enable people using our service access the right support.
  • You have good verbal communication and listening skills, particularly on the telephone.
  • You are perceptive and able to demonstrate empathy with others.
  • You are confident with IT.
  • You are flexible, willing to learn and enjoy being part of a team.
  • You are over the age of 18
