About Alzheimer's Society - who are we and what’s our mission?
Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer. One in three people born in the UK today will develop dementia in their lifetime.
At Alzheimer’s Society, we’re the UK’s leading dementia charity and the only one to tackle all aspects of dementia by giving help and hope to people living with dementia today and in the future. We give vital support to people facing the most frightening times of their lives, while also funding groundbreaking research and campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be.
Together with our supporters, we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives.
Our values make sure that our focus is clear for the challenges and opportunities ahead and remind us of what we all stand for.
About the opportunity
Would you like to play a key part in influencing national decisionmakers across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to drive major, positive change in the dementia policy space? Then this could be the role for you.
Sitting across Alzheimer’s Society’s National Influencing teams, as our new National Influencing Assistant you would be instrumental in supporting the delivery of our innovative, engaging, collaborative, and evidence-based influencing and campaigns work. You’d be ensuring that political and health system stakeholders are acting on the biggest issues affecting people living with dementia, working closely with other teams to drive work that is integrated locally and nationally.
This post is a learning role and Alzheimer’s Society is committed to developing the successful applicant. As part of the role, the postholder will undertake the level 4 Policy Officer Apprenticeship.
This role will work fluidly and flexibly across our teams that work in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and campaigns.
This is an exciting time for dementia policy in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. We have the chance to ensure that governments are prioritising dementia and the needs of all those affected by the condition.
About you
You are someone who exemplifies our values and understands the Society’s wider mission. You will play a key role in supporting execution of high quality, innovative and successful political and health engagement. In the role you will monitor and report on parliamentary activity that relates back to people living with dementia and put the experience and insight of those with and affected by dementia at the heart of our work.
Together with the National Influencing teams you will deliver activity which ensures dementia is heard as part of parliamentary and government agendas across the three nations, including supporting the work of the Campaigns team where required.
What you’ll focus on:
- Monitor and report on parliamentary activity related to dementia, ensuring relevant internal stakeholders are notified.
- Build strong relationships with team members and other colleagues across geographical and team boundaries to support our influencing work being truly three nations in its approach, and so that evidence, policy and influencing all function as one impactful unit. This includes being involved operationally in multiple locations where necessary on specific projects.
- Work closely with colleagues in other teams to inform content for social media and our website, ensuring it is aligned to the key messages we need to land with the stakeholders of the Evidence, Policy and Influencing Team.
