About The Role

If you’d like to support your local community by helping to ensure that people who are worried about or affected by dementia are aware of the support and advice services we offer, we have just the role for you!

You’ll support local events, hold information stands, and display leaflets in a variety of venues and locations highly visible in your community, such as libraries and GP surgeries. You’ll make sure the information publicised in your community is up to date and accurate. You’ll also establish connections with local organisations and community groups to help achieve widespread awareness of the support we offer. As a representative of Alzheimer's Society, we will provide you with branded clothing, and you may also have the opportunity to be included in event pictures to showcase the Society work in the local media.

The role will take place primarily in locations across Belfast, with the opportunity (fi desired) to volunteer at some events outside Belfast.

The role will primarily involve attending awareness stands to represent Alzheimer's Society and speaking to the general public, providing information about Alzheimer's Society services and support. The role is ideal for people who are keen to support people on their dementia journey, and are comfortable speaking with members of the public. We will support any new volunteers in their induction by attending events with experienced staff and/or volunteers, as well as meeting to understand the services and support available locally.

The awareness raising volunteers and fundraising volunteers in Belfast meet every 2-3 months for a team meeting. This takes place in our office (30 Skegoneill Street, Belfast, BT15 3JL - we are based off the Shore Road, opposite the Grove Leisure Centre and behind the McCune Building). This provides an opportunity for peer support and to find out about the work by different teams within Alzheimer's Society.

The role can vary depending on awareness raising opportunities available, but it is usually a few hours every month

There is some opportunity for evening and weekend volunteering, but the majority of volunteering opportunities for information stands take place during the day. We would be keen to recruit some more volunteers to the our team with availability during the day.

This is an exciting and enjoyable role within a caring and compassionate team, who are keen to make a difference and support more people affected by dementia in Belfast.

You’ll be great for the role if:

  • You enjoy meeting members of the public and attending local events.
  • You are passionate about raising awareness about dementia in your local community.
  • You have good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • You are able to volunteer both independently and within a local team.
  • You are able to travel to a variety of venues or events, bringing with you the relevant support information and materials.

Minimum age – 16 years old

This is a flexible volunteer role which is carried out within your local area and on various days and times to suit your availability.
