If you love meeting new people and want to support people affected by dementia in your area, then we may have just the volunteer role for you!
As a Group Support Volunteer, you’ll support and encourage people affected by dementia to engage in activities and socialise with others in a group setting. A friendly face at the group, you’ll welcome and talk to people affected by dementia to help them feel comfortable and make sure they’re offered refreshments. You’ll also help set up and tidy away at the end of the group.
Your involvement in this role will ensure people affected by dementia are able to meet others in a similar situation, access the support and information they need and enjoy meaningful activities.
Our Music and Memory Café takes place at Penarth Methodist Church Hall, Woodland Place, Penarth CF64 2EX - on the fourth Monday of every month from 11.00am to 12.30pm. The café provides a warm, welcoming, and supportive environment for people living with dementia and those who support them.
As a volunteer, you will play an important role in helping the session run smoothly and ensuring everyone feels included and valued. Tasks may include:
Arriving before the session to help set up tables and chairs.
Welcoming attendees and assisting with name badges as people arrive.
Preparing and serving refreshments, such as tea, coffee, and biscuits.
Supporting people living with dementia and their companions to take part in activities, games, music-based sessions, and conversations.
Encouraging social interaction and helping create a friendly and inclusive atmosphere.
Assisting the Group Facilitator and other volunteers throughout the session as needed.
Helping to clear away tables and chairs at the end of the café.
Tidying the kitchen and washing up after refreshments have been served.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys meeting people, is a good listener, and is passionate about supporting people affected by dementia to connect with others and enjoy meaningful activities in their community.
